Mindarie Marina, Perth: Accommodation, brewery or restaurant?

For most visitor, staying in central Perth is a better bet than staying at the Mindarie Marina Hotel. But the Boat and Indian Ocean Brewing Co offer good places to eat and drink on the way north.

Mindarie Marina is at the northern end of Perth’s vast sprawl, to the north of Joondalup and south of Yanchep. In recent years it has become a little hub in its own right, with accommodation, food, drink and activities. If you’re not especially interested in central Perth, and just want to stay somewhere pleasant by the Indian Ocean, Mindarie Marina is worth considering.

Mindarie Marina Hotel rates

The Marina Hotel is a half hour drive north of Perth CBD, and is the base of the action. One bedroom suites at this fairly plush waterside hotel cost from $200 per night.

Overseas visitors are perhaps more likely to be dropping by on their way north or south, however. A meal or a beer is probably going to be of more interest.

Indian Ocean Brewing Co at Mindarie Marina

If you’re thirsty, then the Indian Ocean Brewing Co is the main target. This craft brewery makes beers such as the Indian Ocean Pale Ale and the Vietnamese-inspired street beer on-site.

With the family, the Life Boat is the highlight of Mindarie Marina. Kids can enjoy the playground while parents tuck into fish and chips, wrapped in paper the old-fashioned way. Once the sun goes down, the upper deck of the Life Boat becomes an outdoor cinema, with movies shown via projector. The Life Boat is closed during the colder months between May and October.

The marina’s main dining option, however, is the Boat. This waterside, food-driven pub specialises in seafood. Options on the menu include a seafood chowder for $26 and fisherman’s basket for $27.

But you can also get Irish stews, and satay chicken skewers.
