Why visit Bondi Beach?
Bondi Beach is world famous, partly because it’s pretty impressive beach and partly because it’s the nearest beach to the more plentiful accommodation of Sydney CBD. Surfing at Bondi Beach, Sydney
But the stereotypical image of Bondi Beach will usually involve a surfer or two. If there’s any kind of swell, surfers will be riding the waves at Bondi. Serious surfers will probably want to head elsewhere, largely because Bondi is too busy for their tastes. However, Bondi is still a very good surf beach, even if it’s not in the Australian beaches top tier.
So Bondi isn’t quite the Gold Coast Superbreak, Bells Beach in Victoria or Margaret River in Western Australia. But the waves at the middle and south ends of the beach can get pretty high.
For complete novices, it’s North Bondi that’s more of interest. Here, the Ben Buckler headland offers a degree of protection, keeping the surf generally pretty manageable. That’s exactly what beginners are after, so North Bondi is a good place to learn to surf with a Bondi surfing school.
