Kings Park: Where can I get the best view of Perth?

But taken in panorama, Perth is a seriously good-looking city – and one with direct flights from the UK. The best spot to get that magical skyline photo is Kings Park*.

Walking to Kings Park, Perth

The key areas of the Kings Park are a short walk from the city centre. It’s 2.5km from Yagan Square, 1.9km from London Court or 2.2km from Elizabeth Quay. The latter is where Swan River cruises head out towards Heirisson Island.

You’re inside the park well before that, however, so you may as well enjoy the stout, silver-trunked, red-flowering gum trees along Fraser Avenue along the way.

There are several sites within the park for getting a the best view of Perth. The first is near the Wadjuk car park, and the State War Memorial. From here, the gleaming glass towers of the city centre are to the left of the frame.

The majority of the shot, however, is taken up by the bulging, curving Swan River as it winds its way towards the Indian Ocean and Rottnest Island. The rich blue water is punctuated by the white sails of yachts flitting along the river.

Other lookouts offer similar views, but with slightly different angles. The Mt Eliza Lookout, slightly further along, and the Dryandra Lookout in the south of the Kings Park are good bets if you want to make a thorough assessment.

It doesn’t have to be a quick photo and out job either – there’s plenty to do in Kings Park.
