What is the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre?

The Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre harks back to Tennant Creek’s gold rush era. It was the last Australian gold rush, and the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre covers life in the town between the 1930s and 1960s.

The Freedom, Fortune and Flies section collects photos, artifacts and stories from the golden days.

The McLaughlin Minerals Collection, meanwhile, brings together a wide collection of mineral specimens from Australia and elsewhere in the world.

The third section of the museum is called 100 Years of Anzac Spirit, and follows the story of a World War I serviceman who won the Victoria Cross.

Battery Hill gold mine tours

The main reason most visitors will want to come to the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre, however, is the underground mine tour.

These mine tours don’t run every day, so check in advance before rocking up. However, they’ll give you a greater insight into what conditions were like for Tennant Creek’s gold miners.
