Point Piper, Sydney: Attractions and things to do

Point Piper in Sydney is famously the most expensive suburb in Australia, with real estate selling for $40 million. It’s a residential area, but visitors can enjoy Lady Martins Beach, Woollahra Point, Duff Reserve, Seven Shillings Beach and the Point Piper Kayak and SUP Centre.

Where is Point Piper?

Point Piper in Sydney is notorious for being the most expensive suburb in Australia. It is part of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, and has a prime position on Sydney Harbour.

Point Piper is 6km from Sydney CBD, and juts out into the harbour. It’s a residential suburb, next to Rose Bay, Bellevue Hill and Double Bay, with not all that much to offer tourists. Unless, of course, they want to see some terrifyingly expensive housing.

Point Piper real estate prices

Point Piper real estate prices are feared for good reason. A little snoop around on Domain indicates weekly rents of $900 for a two bedroom unit, and average sale prices for a three bed room apartment approaching $3.4 million.

Earlier in 2021, one Point Piper property – 1 Windagal Place – sold for a reported $40 million.

Strangely, people paying this sort of money for housing don’t really want their piece of paradise filled with rowdy pubs and souvenir shops.

The most expensive suburb in Australia for visitors

There are very few public amenities in Point Piper. All the bars, restaurants, cafés and shops are in neighbouring Rose Bay or Double Bay. But Point Piper does have a couple of beaches. Lady Martins Beach faces north, and has lots of yachts moored around it. Seven Shillings Beach has a slightly less exclusive feel. If you really want Sydney Harbour beaches, though, venture elsewhere to Balmoral, Milk Beach or Parsley Bay.

Visitors to Point Piper can also get pretty nifty harbour views from Woollahra Point and Duff Reserve.

Things to do in Point Piper, Sydney: Point Piper Kayak and SUP Centre

The major reason for visitors to go to Point Piper, though, is the Point Piper Kayak and SUP Centre. Right on the unmarked border with Rose Bay, the Point Piper Kayak and SUP Centre boasts that it has the biggest range of kayaks for hire in Sydney. Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rental prices start at $20 per hour.

You’ll find it right at the western end of Rose Bay Beach. Head further round the beach for seafood restaurant Catalina or a scenic flight over Sydney with Sydney Seaplanes.
