Things to do in Henley Brook, WA: Vodka tasting at Old Young’s
Old Young’s makes genuinely fantastic gins and vodkas, which have deservedly been handed many awards. The Pure No. 1 vodka is made with Australian sugar cane and Swan Valley grapes, while the Pavlova vodka is sweeter and fruitier. Old Young’s is open for tastings, although booking ahead is advisable.
Tastings of a different kind take place at the Maalinup Aboriginal Gallery. This gallery showcases Indigenous art, but also offers bush food tasting sessions. This is your chance to explore native ingredients such as pepperberries and finger limes. Maalinup also runs the Maalinup Bush Foods stall in the Market Hall food court in Yagan Square, Perth.
Swan Valley breweries and wineries
The Duckstein German Brewery was one of the pioneers of craft brewing in Australia. Set up in 2000, it makes German-style German beers, such as the pilsner, altbier, hefeweiss and dunkel. There’s also a German restaurant on site, should you be in the mood for sausages, schnitzels and pork knuckles.
Duckstein is by no means the only brewery in Henley Brook. Other Swan Valley craft breweries that call Henley Brook home include the Bailey Brewing Co and Mash Brewery. Both are open to thirsty visitors.
The Swan Valley is best known for its wines, though, and there are several wineries worth visiting in Henley Brook. These include the Little River Winery, Black Swan Winery and Henley Park Winery.

The Henley Brook is a laid back pub with an emphasis on chicken dishes, including the notorious Aussie parma. Elmar’s In The Valley leans towards hearty German food, while the Mallard Duck goes for more sophisticated Modern Australian dishes.
Aside from food and drink, the best things to do in Henley Brook are all about animals. The Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm isn’t going to challenge Australia’s top zoos and wildlife parks anytime soon. But the Cuddly Animal Farm does offer kids the chance to bottle-feed cute baby farmyard creatures.
What to do in Henley Brook: West Australian Reptile Park
Considerably less cuddly are the critters on display at the West Australian Reptile Park. Pythons on show here include an olive python, Stimson’s python and water python, while venomous snakes include the desert death adder and western tiger snake. Among the lizards are a perentie, lace monitor and bobtail shingleback.
