Great Keppel Island ferry: Fares, timetable & journey time

There are two Great Keppel Island ferry services from Rosslyn Bay near Yeppoon. The Keppel Konnections ferry timetable has more daily transfers than the Freedom Fast Cats option. Fares cost $50 return on both ferries.

Great Keppel Island is arguably the top attraction in the Rockhampton region of Queensland, and there are two separate ferry services that can take you there.

Keppel Konnections ferry timetable

The Keppel Konnections ferry from the Keppel Bay Marina in Rosslyn Bay just south of Yeppoon is the better known and more frequent Great Keppel Island service. This leaves three times a day at 07.30, 09.00 and 15.00, and returns at 10.00, 14.00 and 16.00.

There is an extra service on Fridays, leaving at 17.45, and returning at 18.20.

Keppel Konnections ferry fares

The Keppel Konnections ferry fares are $30 one way and $50 return.

The company also offers Great Keppel Island day tours. These are pretty simple affairs designed to let you spend your free time on the island as you wish, be it walking or snorkelling. The basic option, costing $70, includes ferry transfers, lunch and a drink. That should be booked online.

The $90 Great Keppel Island day tour option includes snorkelling equipment as well. This can also be booked online.

Great Keppel Island accommodation

The other option is to stay on Great Keppel Island. The main accommodation option on the island is the Great Keppel Island Hideaway. This three star option is where the watersports are based, and is pretty much next to the jetty where the ferry pulls in.

Great Keppel Island ferry fare prices

The second option is the Freedom Fast Cats ferry from Pier One at Rosslyn Bay. These Great Keppel Island ferries cost $30 one way or $50 return, and bookings must be made online.

It takes around 30 minutes to complete the 18km ferry journey.

Freedom Fast Cats ferry timetable

The Freedom Fast Cats ferry timetable has two departures on Mondays and Tuesdays, leaving at 09.00 and 10.30. These return at 09.30 and 15.45 on Monday, but 09.30 and 14.30 on Tuesday.

On Saturdays, there are also two Freedom Fast Cat ferries to Great Keppel Island. The first leaves at 07.30, returning at 08.00. The second is at 09.15, coming back at 15.45.

On Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, there is usually one ferry leaving at 09.15, but coming back at 15.45. The return journey is at 14.30 on Fridays.

There are extra services laid on during the Queensland school holidays. These leave on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at 07.30 and return at 08.00.
