The following, however, are particularly good choices.

Goondiwindi to Moree drive via Boggabilla

The quickest route from Goondiwindi to Moree crosses the Macintyre River into New South Wales, and immediately joins the Newell Highway. The highway passes through Boggabilla, then heads through rural areas without a great deal to get excited about.

There are several country stations, and you can pull over at the North Star Road Rest Area or Kiga Bore rest area, but there’s little point in doing so. Otherwise, the Bullala National Park isn’t too much of a detour to the east, although it isn’t really set up for visitors.

Gwydir Wetlands and Careunga Nature Reserve

Things to do in Moree once you’re there include the Bank Art Museum and the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre. For nature, try the Waterbird Lagoon bird hide in the Gwydir Wetlands State Conservation Area or the forest walking trail in the Careunga Nature Reserve.
