Griffith to Sydney road trip: Griffith to Temora

On the way out of Griffith on Burley-Griffin Way, you can stop at a few local wineries. These include De Bortoli in Bilbul and Casella in Yenda.

Just after Yenda, you’ll pass through Cocoparra National Park. Here, the Mount Brogden Walking Track offers fabulous birdwatching and Murrumbidgee River views.

On the other side of the national park, Burley-Griffin Way passes through Binya, then Barellan. The latter offers a quirky photo stop beside the Big Tennis Racket and a swim in the Barellan Memorial Swimming Pool.

The road largely follows the Griffith to Sydney train line through unexciting Moombooldool and Kamarah before reaching Ardlethan.

This is where Burley-Griffin Way meets the Newell Highway. Here, you can stretch your legs on the paths around Mirrool Creek and see the Kelpie Statue. The latter pays tribute to the distinctive Australian dog breed, which allegedly originated in Ardlethan.

Burley-Griffin Way runs concurrently with the Newell Highway until just south of Mirrool. Stick to the Burley-Griffin, however.

It runs past a few mediocre plantations and nature reserves on the way to Temora. The Pucawan Nature Reserve is arguably the most appealing of these for visitors.

Things to do in Temora include visiting the Temora Aviation Museum and the Bundawarrah Centre. The latter is a classic local history museum, focusing on rural life. Neither of these attractions is exactly bucket list material.

Temora also has a greyhound racing track and golf course.
