These days, there are direct flights from the UK to Australia. But the vast majority of people still change planes or take a stopover somewhere on the way.

Perhaps the most popular stopover destination between the UK and Australia is Singapore. British Airways, Singapore Airlines and Qantas all route their UK to Australia flights through Singapore. It’s also a city with plenty to do.

But if you’ve got Singapore dollars to spend in Singapore, they’re not much use to you when you leave for Australia. But what sort of exchange rate can you get switching Singapore dollars to Australian dollars.

SGD to AUD exchange rate

At time of writing in April 2021, the SGD to AUD exchange rate was 0.97. So for every 100 Singapore dollars, you’ll get 97 Australian dollars. Unless you’re feeling particularly pernickety, to all intents and purposes the SGD and AUD are at parity.

The Singapore dollar to Australian dollar exchange rate isn’t always this smoothly convenient, however. In the last five years, the SGD has been worth as many as 1.19 Australian dollars, and as little as 0.92 Australian dollars. The swings aren’t massive, but get unlucky, and this can have a significant effect on what you get for your money.

Historic value of Singapore dollar

Looking at the SGD to AUD charts over the last ten years, it’s clear to see the Australian dollar is comparatively weaker than it once was. In 2011 and 2012, the Singapore dollar would buy you between A$0.74 and $0.80.

Right now, the Singapore dollar to Australian dollar exchange rate is less difficult to work out. But if you’re changing your Aussie dollars in, you’re not getting the AUD to SGD bargain you once were. The Australian dollar to New Zealand dollar exchange rate, on the other hand, has stayed relatively stable.
