Before leaving St George, you may wish to pay a visit to Riversands Wines, which has a cellar door next to the Balonne River.

The next settlement along the Balonne Highway is Bollon, which has a couple of parks, a café and a classic Aussie pub – the Bollon Hotel. There’s also a service station if you need to fill up with petrol.

It’s another 180km to Cunnamulla, and there are no more towns along the route.

There is, however, Narkoola National Park. It’s possible to drive through this low key national park with a 4WD vehicle, but it is not really set up for tourism.

Barring a few small and usually dry lakes, there’s nothing else to see before joining the Mitchell Highway just outside Cunnamulla.

Cunnamulla, once you get there, is a notoriously good place for spotting kangaroos. You can also try sandboarding down the big sand dunes on the edge of town.
