There are two reasonable routes to take, both of which are almost exactly as long. The first is along the Olympic Highway, or A41. This goes through the small settlements of The Rock, Yerong Creek, Henty, Culcairn and Gerogery.

The route then joins the Hume Highway just before Table Top. This is where you’ll find the Table Top Hotel – aka the Ettamogah Pub. This is a pub based on a cartoon and full of often absurd Australiana.

There are two small national parks just to the east of the Holbrook Road, should you wish to break the journey. Livingstone National Park offers a 4.3km loop track for walking, biking and birdwatching.

Benambra National Park, meanwhile, has no drive-in access. Bushwalkers are allowed in, but need to park outside. This park is not really set up for visitors.

Things to do in Albury once you’re there include the Yindyamarra Sculpture Trail, Murray River kayaking tours and the genuinely fascinating Bonegilla Migrant Experience.
