Where is Biloela, Queensland?

Biloela is one of several inland Queensland towns, such as Toowoomba, Gayndah, Emerald and Kingaroy, that don’t feature too heavily in tourist itineraries. Biloela is the regional hub and administrative centre for the Banana Shire, 121km south-west of Gladstone.

Frankly, if you’re passing through this part of Central Queensland, you’re likely to be going along the coast. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay the night, then the Tannum Sands caravan park in beach town Tannum Sands is probably more appealing.

Things to do in Biloela, QLD: Murals and museums

But if you choose an inland adventure instead, there are a few things to do in Biloela. These include the Spirit of the Land Mural, Greycliffe Homestead and Queensland Heritage Park.

You can safely skip the Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery. If it’s art in Biloela you want, then the Spirit of the Land mural plastered across a giant water tank is much more impressive.

The Spirit of the Land mural tells the history of the local area, and is on State Farm Road just off the Dawson Highway. It’s close to the Greycliffe Homestead, which was built in 1870 and transported to its present location in 1979. There’s a small museum about pastoral life inside the Greycliffe Homestead. Don’t get too excited about it.

The Queensland Heritage Park does a better job of exploring Central Queensland life. But the best things to do in Biloela are outside of the town itself.
