Things to do in Bremer Bay: Orca cruises

Orcas are not the only creatures you’re likely to see on these Bremer Bay expeditions. It is the only place in Australia where you reliably encounter these killer whales, but sometimes sperm whales, pilot whales, beaked whales and blue whales are spotted, too.

There are also several large pods of dolphins, plus shark species including the great white shark. The oceanic blue shark – never seen from the shore – is also seen around the Bremer Bay Canyon.

These Bremer Bay orca cruises have a marine biologist on board to explain what’s going on in the ocean below.

Tickets must be booked in advance.

Things to do in Bremer Bay, WA: Whale-watching

While the orcas are best seen on a cruise, southern right whales can be admired from the land. Bremer Bay is one of only three southern right whale calving sites in Australia, and the whales turn the place into a nursery between July and November.

The best places to see whales in Bremer Bay are in the neighbouring Fitzgerald River National Park. There are reliable sightings from the Point Ann cliffs and Trigelow Beach.

Beaches in Bremer Bay

Trigelow Beach is one of many white sand beaches around Bremer Bay. Each has its own appeal. Reef Beach and Fosters Beach are renowned for their fishing, with Fosters Beach being particularly highly regarded for salmon.

Dillon Beach and Peppermint are amongst those where four wheel driving is allowed on the sand. Fishery Beach has protection from a breakwater, and is thus pretty good for swimming.

Surfers, meanwhile, may be more interested in Blossoms Beach or Native Dog Beach, which get consistently big waves.

What to do in Bremer Bay: Fitzgerald River National Park

Fitzgerald River National Park lies to the north of Bremer Bay, and it is absolutely enormous. There are dozens of beaches to enjoy here, with big sweeping monsters and snorkeller-friendly coves.

This Western Australian national park is also well-known for its wildflowers, many of which grow nowhere else.
