Bruce Rock, Western Australia: Things to do and attractions

Things to do in Bruce Rock, Western Australia, include the Bruce Rock Museum, Amphitheatre Sculpture Park and Kokerbin Rock.

Bruce Rock, Western Australia, is a farming town that most visitors will have no cause to go anywhere near. It’s in the heart of WA’s wheatbelt, about 243km east of Perth.

Perhaps more importantly, this wheatbelt town is just south of the Great Eastern Highway and has a caravan park. If you’re wanting to break up the drive from Perth to Kalgoorlie, Bruce Rock is a feasible overnight stay.

Things to do in Bruce Rock, Western Australia, include visiting the Bruce Rock Museum. This is not the most riveting cultural attraction in Australia, but contains a fair smattering of local memorabilia. There’s also the town’s original one room school house. Across the road in the Machinery and Motor Museum, there’s a steam traction engine and vintage farm machinery. The museums are open from 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

More appealing is the town’s Amphitheatre, which can hold up to 1,200 people. The sculpture park next to it has a collection of often eccentric artworks, including some sculptures made from scrap metal.

Perhaps the main reason to stay in Bruce Rock, however, is to use it as a base for seeing Kokerbin Rock. This massive monolith covers nine hectares, and is 40km to the north-west of town.

The rock – allegedly the third largest monolith in Australia – is 122 metres high. There are various walks from the parking areas within the Kokerbin Nature Reserve.

There are more big rocks on the 60km Granite Way, which passes through neighbouring Kellerberrin and Quairading.
