Calliope, QLD, is a small town on the Bruce Highway. It is, to all intents and purposes, a suburb of Gladstone, but you’ll pass through on the drive from Bundaberg to Rockhampton.

The Calliope River Historical Village is an open air museum. A series of historic buildings from around the Gladstone region have been preserved and moved to become a collection.

These include the Raglan Dance Hall and Yarwun Station. Wander around, and you’ll get a good idea of the region’s history.

This absurdly eclectic attraction hosts arts and crafts workshops, has an alpaca farm, and runs laser tag sessions. Give up the pretence that it makes any sense, and you can have some fun.

Dining options in Calliope, QLD, aren’t exactly what you’d get in a big city. But there are a few decent options, including Pizza Place Calliope, the Diggers Arms and the Salty Towers fish and chips takeaway.
