The best things to do in Miles, QLD, are the Miles Historical Village and Museum, plus admiring the pink waterlilies at Chinamans Lagoon.

Miles, QLD is a small town in the Western Downs region of Queensland. It’s on the Warrego Highway on the drive from Chinchilla to Roma, and it’s at the junction of the Leichhardt Highway.

Understandably, most visitors to Miles will be passing through on their way to somewhere else. However, it’s a surprisingly amiable little town for a little rest break.

Miles was originally known as Dogwood Crossing, and explorer Ludwig Leichhardt passed through in 1844.

Things to do in Miles, QLD: Miles Historical Village

There are only a couple of things to do in Miles, QLD, but the top attraction is genuinely good. The Miles Historical Village and Museum is a recreation of an old country town’s main street. The era replicated is roughly the turn of the 20^th century, but there’s no need to dwell on precise dates.

More than 30 buildings have been recreated, including a pub, dairy, general store, bank and post office. You can poke your head inside, and visit the museum, which runs through the region’s history.

Things to do in Miles, QLD: Chinamans Lagoon

If you prefer your attractions natural rather than cultural, Chinamans Lagoon by the Leichhardt Highway is a lovely spot. Come in summer or early autumn, and the lake fills with extremely rare pink water lilies.

There are also barbecue facilities by Chinamans Lagoon, should you fancy stopping for lunch on the way from Dalby to Roma.

There are several good Miles accommodation options, which makes it a good spot for an overnight stay on a road trip. Highly-rated Miles motels include the Western Downs Motor Inn and the Starlight Motor Inn.
