Miriam Vale, Queensland: Best things to do and attractions

The best things to do in Miriam Vale are drinking at the Miriam Vale Pub and playing a round at the golf club. But the town is best used as a gateway to the coast.

Miriam Vale, Queensland, is no-one’s destination. But a surprising number of people stop there. Trains from Bundaberg to Brisbane stop at Miriam Vale station, while the Greyhound buses along the Queensland coast also drop by.

For drivers, however, Miriam Vale is somewhere you pass through on the Bruce Highway from Brisbane to Cairns. It lies just over half way between Gin Gin and Gladstone.

Things to do in Miriam Vale, Queensland: Pub and golf course

Nobody’s going to get too excited about the town, however. It’s a hub for the local dairy and timber industries, but there aren’t many things to do in Miriam Vale. You can stop for a beer at the Miriam Vale Pub, or a round of golf at the Miriam Vale Golf Club, but that’s about it.

Where Miriam Vale does come in is as the gateway to the Town of 1770, Agnes Water and Eurimbula National Park.

Things to do in Miriam Vale, Queensland: Mount Colosseum National Park

The other Miriam Vale attraction is Mount Colosseum National Park, which is just to the south of the town. This is based around a steep granite hill called Mount Colosseum, and heavily forested with hoop pines, bloodwoods and ironbark trees.

However, Mount Colosseum is left deliberately undeveloped. There are no formal walking trails or tourist facilities. Visitors need to be self-sufficient and know what they’re doing in the bush.
