Things to do in Preston Beach, WA: Fishing and four wheel driving

Obviously, the main attraction in Preston Beach is the beach itself. It’s long, almost entirely empty and has highly alluring twinkly clear water. It’s the sort of Indian Ocean Beach that would be raved about in Thailand, the Maldives or the Seychelles.

Four wheel drive vehicles are allowed on Preston Beach, although camping isn’t. Fishing is permitted, however – there’s a good chance of catching whiting, herring and salmon.

What to do in Preston Beach: Lake Pollard and Lake Clifton

It’s not all about the beach, however. Yalgorup National Park surrounds Preston Beach This Western Australian national park contains a series of lakes and several walking trails. Highlights include birdwatching at Lake Pollard and the thrombolites at Lake Clifton. Thrombolites look like rocks, but they’re examples of some of the oldest living organisms on earth.

Vineyard 28 is more traditional. It’s technically in Yarloop, but it’s just off the Forrest Highway at the edge of the Myalup State Forest.
