Beaudesert is the main administrative centre for the Scenic Rim region in the Gold Coast hinterland. As with other regional hub towns in Australia, such as Gayndah in the North Burnett Region or Warragul in West Gippsland, Beaudesert isn’t exactly a must-see.

Things to do in Beaudesert: The race course

Beaudesert is primarily concerned with rural industries – particularly anything horse related – rather than tourism. The two intertwine at the Beaudesert Racecourse, however. There are various race days throughout the year put on by the Beaudesert Race Club.

Beaudesert has a smattering of heritage buildings, including the Beaudesert Hotel and Beaudesert Masonic Centre on Brisbane Street. Otherwise, the main attraction is the Beaudesert Historical Museum. Don’t get too excited about this – the Beaudesert Historical Museum is firmly in the old farm equipment mould of museum curation.

So, in all honesty, the best things to do in Beaudesert are really the best things to do in the surrounding region. And the Gold Coast hinterland offers plenty.

Tamborine Mountain is the main tourist hub here, with plenty of artsy shops and cafés. It’s also where you’ll find the Witches Falls Winery and Curtis Falls. Thunderbird Park, with its access to Cedar Creek Falls and mildly terrifying ropes course is nearby, too.

What to do in Beaudesert, Queensland: Wineries and balloon tours

There are a fair few wineries in the Scenic Rim as well. Among the most interesting to visit are Albert River Wines in Tamborine and O’Reilly’s in Canungra. That’s where the Gold Coast hot air balloon tours run by Hot Air finish up.

Outdoorsy types might prefer fishing, walking and mountain biking around Lake Wyaralong to the west. And golfers will be more interested in the Kooralbyn Valley Golf Course to the south-west.
