Things to do in Bridgetown, WA: Brierly Jigsaw Gallery

Bridgetown is very much a place to hang out in, rather than tick attractions off a list. It’s a heritage town, with several handsome buildings to admire, and a taste for the good life. It’s the sort of place that people come to in winter for food, wine and country charm.

There’s an arty streak to Bridgetown, too, with several artists based in the surrounding area. You can check out some of their work in the town’s galleries, including Fat Arts and the Ampersand Artist Initiative.

Most interesting of all, however, is the Brierly Jigsaw Gallery. This labour of love has been collecting jigsaw puzzles from around the world since the 1940s. They range from the microscopic to the gargantuan, and come in several different styles.

Things to do in Bridgetown, WA: Blackwood River Park

Much of Bridgetown’s charm, however, comes from the Blackwood River. The Blackwood River Park is the best place to admire it, and the Blackwood River Walk provides an easy stroll, forming a loop that takes in both banks.

There’s a playground in Blackwood River Park, with barbecues and picnic tables for those who want to eat al fresco.

Every fortnight, a small market takes place in Blackwood River Park.

What to do in Bridgetown, WA: The Cidery

Bridgetown is at its best when you indulge, though, with the Cidery and Blackwood Valley Brewing Company being the prime place to stop. The Cidery produces several different styles of cider, from the sweet-tasting Sweet Rosie to the cloudy, unfiltered Apple Pickers.

If you’d prefer beers, then there are also several to try, include a summer ale, Irish red ale, stout porter and a nut brown ale.

For wines instead, try the Sunnyhurst Winery, which is open for tastings between Thursday and Sunday every week.
