Clairview, Queensland, is where the Bruce Highway rejoins the coast on the drive from Rockhampton to Mackay. It’s a neither here nor there town, in the Isaac region that most Australians couldn’t place on a map.

There aren’t many things to do in Clairview, Queensland. It is a pretty basic beach town, with a park next to the beach and a caravan park for anyone wanting to stay the night.

Many of the people who decide to stay in Clairview, Queensland, are Australians travelling fully kitted up. They’ve got their own food, fishing equipment, camping chairs and the works. This level of heavy packing is unlikely to be plausible for the average overseas visitor. In which case, you’re probably better off carrying on towards Sarina Beach and Mackay.

Things to do in Clairview, Queensland: Mud-crabbing

The main tourist activity in Clairview is mud-crabbing. There are plenty of great spots to catch crabs along the tidal flats near Clairview.

If you want to take to the water, this isn’t an ideal place for swimming. Marine stingers are one problem, and you’re far enough north to be in crocodile territory, although crocodiles are not usually seen around Clairview.

Things to do in Clairview, Queensland: Flock Pigeon Island

The other people who’ll get something out of Clairview are those with their own boats. Broad Sound around the town is a marine sanctuary, much-loved by dugongs, and there are a couple of offshore islands.

But the Broad Sound Islands National Park isn’t one that’s really geared to visitors. If you’ve got your own boat, you can head over to Flock Pigeon Island and camp the night there. Otherwise, your best bets for Clairview accommodation are the BarraCrab Holiday Park and nearby Carmila Sands Motel.
