What are the best things to do in Halls Gap, Victoria?

The best things to do in Halls Gap, Victoria, include swimming at Venus Baths, the Pinnacle Walk via Bridal Veil Falls and the really tough Halls Gap mini golf course.

Halls Gap, Victoria, is the main tourist town in the wildlife-packed Grampians region. It’s the most attractive base for exploring the Grampians, and several top attractions are very nearby.

Best things to do in Halls Gap: Venus Baths

Some of the best things to do in Halls Gap can be strung together in a looping scenic drive. Start along the Mount Victory Road, and you’ll quickly pass the pleasantly inessential Halls Gap Botanical Gardens. Next come looming Chataqua Peak and the fabulous Venus Baths.

Venus Baths is a series of rock pools and rock slides in Stoney Creek. On a sunny day, they’re an absolute delight to splash around in. These Grampians swimming holes are an easy walk from the car park, but you might prefer to 2.3km Venus Baths Loop Walk from the centre of Halls Gap.

Best things to do in Halls Gap: Wonderland car park walks

A little further along the drive is the Wonderland car park. From here, you can take a 700 metre walk along Stoney Creek to Splitters Falls. This Halls Gap waterfall is only seasonal – it can be dry in summer. But in spring, when surrounded by wildflowers, Splitters Falls is gorgeous.

The 4km return Pinnacle Walk also starts at the Wonderland car park. This aims for the Pinnacle, one of the best lookouts in the Grampians, but it packs in plenty along the way. Highlights include Bridal Veil Falls, and a rocky gorge known as the Grand Canyon. There’s also Silent Street, a narrow gorge where the walls rise high either side as you squeeze through.

Branch left onto Silverband Road and you quickly get to the trailhead for a tougher walking trail. The 8.9km Mount Rosea Track involves a fair bit of rock-hopping, but the rewards is excellent views of the Mount William and Serra Ranges.

What to do in Halls Gap, Victoria: Silverband Falls and Lake Bellfield

Silverband Falls, a tall, thin Halls Gap waterfall which plunges back into the rock, is further along the road, as is Lake Bellfield.

Lake Bellfield, however, is best seen from the stunning Boroka Lookout. This is to the north of Halls Gap, and shows off a rumpled green landscape as well as the lake and town. You can drive up rather than trekking through the bush, then pop to the nearby Clematis Falls.

Other things to do in Halls Gap, Victoria, include the outrageously tricksy Grampians Adventure Golf. This Halls Gap mini golf course, bizarrely, also hosts an art gallery. Other Halls Gap attractions include the Halls Gap Zoo. But this seems a little pointless when you can see big mobs of kangaroos for free in the Halls Gap Recreation Reserve.

The Melbourne to Halls Gap drive via Ballarat and Beaufort takes just under three hours.
