Kellerberrin, WA, is a fairly anonymous wheatbelt town on the Great Eastern Highway from Perth to Kalgoorlie. No-one’s going to go on holiday to Kellerberrin as a destination in its own right. However, they might drop by as part of a longer road trip.

It’s a 203km drive from Perth to Kellerberrin, and you shouldn’t expect anywhere more interesting to pull over further east.

The Kellerberrin Pioneer Museum means well, but it’s essentially a volunteer-run collection of local memorabilia. It opens on request and on Sundays from 10am to noon.

The best views of the town come from the Kellerberrin Hill Lookout, from where you can see a few granite outcrops.

Things to do in Kellerberrin, WA: The Granite Way

It’s these outcrops that provide the main reason to explore the area around Kellerberrin. The 60km Granite Way is a driving route through the Shires of Bruce Rock, Quairading and Kellerberrin, which takes in several big granite rocks. These include Mount Stirling, where bizarre-looking rock pools called gnamma holes attract the local wallaby population.

The biggest granite outcrop in the region is about 30km south of Kellerberrin. Kokerbin Rock, inside the Kokerbin Nature Reserve, is reputed to be the third largest monolith in Australia. Unlike Uluru, you can climb it. There are walking trails from several parking areas around Kokerbin Rock.

Another worthwhile drive is along the Kellerberrin – Trayning Road, which bursts into colour during wildflower season.
