Things to do in Kojonup, WA: Kodja Place

The Kodja Place shares a premises with the Kojonup Visitor Centre, and is far better than most regional museums. It attempts to tell tales of country life, but does so from several perspectives. These include white Australians, Indigenous Noongar people and Italian migrants. Stories of farming mix in with traditional Noongar culture and local wildlife. The stories are told in various settings, including an art gallery and the Australian Rose Garden. Entrance to the Kodj Gallery and Storyplace costs $10, but it’s free to visit the Australian Rose Garden. For full information, visit the Kodja Place website.

Things to do in Kojonup, WA: Farrar Nature Reserve

The Farrar Nature Reserve is by no means Australia’s greatest gift to conservation, but it’s a pleasant enough spot for a walk. This is particularly the case in spring, when it becomes a carpet of wildflowers.

Offering something fairly similar is the Myrtle Benn Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, just to the north of the town centre. Several native orchids grow here, and on the walking trail through the sanctuary, you’ve got a decent chance of spotting native birds and mammals. The red-tailed phascogale, a small, endangered marsupial, is regularly spotted here.
