Millmerran, Queensland, is a small Gore Highway town to the south-west of Toowoomba in the Darling Downs region. It’s not really a tourist destination in its own right, but you’re likely to pass through on the inland drive from Brisbane to Melbourne, or the Moree to Brisbane leg of the Adelaide to Brisbane drive.

Millmerran acts as a hub for local agriculture, and is a fairly prosperous place. It is primarily famous for hosting the Australian Camp Oven Festival. Which, to all intents and purposes, is an admission that Millmerran really isn’t famous at all.

Things to do in Millmerran, Queensland, include the Millmerran Museum. This is your classic, bog standard local history museum, which really shouldn’t be treated as a destination in its own right. Expect quite old buildings and farming equipment.

At the museum, you can pick up a map of the murals which sprinkle through the town. These murals also explain local history – it’s just more fun to be walking through the streets while learning it.

What to do in Millmerran, Queensland: Commodore Peak Lookout

There are also murals at the Commodore Peak Lookout, just to the south-west of the town centre. This is the best viewing spot for the town and the local area. And, unless you’re content to go fishing or picnicking on Back Creek, it’s the local area that’s the main reason to stay in Millmerran.

The town is almost ringed by state forests and national parks, most of which can be tackled on the Toowoomba to Goondiwindi drive. Take your pick from the Western Creek State Forest, Bulli State Forest, Wondul Range National Park and Bringalily State Forest.
