Mollymook, NSW, is one of the most appealing South Coast beach towns. Effectively a suburb of Ulladulla, Mollymook has gone from hidden secret to hotspot in the last couple of decades.

The 2km Mollymook Beach is the clear highlight, here. It’s one of the best beaches in New South Wales and is patrolled at both ends by the local surf lifesaving club. It’s highly advised to swim between the red and yellow flags for your own safety. The southern section of Mollymook Beach tends to have lower waves.

Mollymook is also popular with surfers. If you can’t surf, then one of the best things to do in Mollymook is learning how to. The Mollymook Surf School runs two hour beginner classes for $50. They should have you standing on the board and riding a wave by the end of the first lesson. You can also try a private surfing lesson.

There are also handy lookouts from the headlands at either end of the beach. There’s a decent chance of spotting dolphins from either.

Two major Mollymook attractions are on those headlands, too. At the northern end, Bannisters Point, is Bannisters By The Sea, a plush hotel with a heated pool and Rick Stein seafood restaurant. Other Mollymook accommodation includes the Allure on Ocean Motel by the beach and the more budget-friendly Dolphins of Mollymook.

At the southern end is Mollymook Golf Club, hosting one of the finest coastal golf courses in Australia. The southern headland is also where you’ll find Bogey Hole. At low tide, this natural rock pool is great for kids to paddle in. At high tide, you can swim there.

The drive from Sydney to Mollymook takes just under three hours.
