What are the best things to do in Seymour, Victoria?

The best things to do in Seymour, Victoria, include the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk and the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre’s vintage train tours. There are also several Seymour wineries worth visiting, including Wine By Sam and the Trawool Valley Vineyard.

Seymour, Victoria, is a small, historic town on the banks of the Goulburn River. It is just off the Hume Motorway, north of Melbourne in central Victoria. You’ll probably drive past on the drive from Melbourne to Albury, Melbourne to Canberra or Melbourne to Sydney.

As small towns go, Seymour has a surprising amount to grab the interest. The Tallarook Ranges are to the south-east and the Puckapunyal Military Area is to the west.

Things to do in Seymour, Victoria: Australian Army Tank Museum

Having Puckapunyal on the doorstep helps explain why Seymour has something of a military feel. If you’re really, really into tanks, you can visit the Australian Army Tank Museum in Puckapunyal. Otherwise, content yourself with the war memorials in Seymour. The Australian Light Horse Memorial Park is on what was once a major army camp. In World War I, soldiers gathered here to go off to war. Now, it is primarily interesting for the chunks of the army camp left intact and the attempts to return the vegetation-bereft camp to a bushland setting.

Things to do in Seymour, Victoria: Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk

Also on the list of things to do in Seymour is the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk. This has the names of every Australian man and woman who served in the Vietnam War, engraved on 106 glass panels. There are also photographs, which tell the tales of those who served in Vietnam, and the walk is surrounded by plants native to Vietnam.

Perhaps the most appealing Seymour attraction, however, is the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre. It is home to plenty of vintage rolling stock, but also runs tours on heritage trains.

There are also several wineries around Seymour. Wine By Sam, the Brave Goose Vineyard, the Kensington Winery and Trawool Valley Vineyard are among those closest to the town centre.
