Where is Traralgon, Victoria?

Traralgon, Victoria, is the regional hub for the Latrobe Valley region of Gippsland. No-one’s going to pretend Traralgon is the greatest holiday town in the state, but there are direct trains from Melbourne to Traralgon, and it makes a good base for exploring the Latrobe Valley.

Traralgon has a handful of attractive heritage buildings (most notably the Post Office) and a decent collection of parks. But the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve, Newman Park and Hubert Osborne Park are the sort of places you hang out in while you happen to be there, rather than tourist attractions you come to see.

Traralgon attractions: Traralgon Vineyard and Narkoojee

Better things to do in Traralgon include visiting the nearby vineyards. The Traralgon Vineyard to the north-east of the town and Narkoojee to the north, in the village of Glengarry, are both worth a look.

The Trararalgon Vineyard hosts a lot of weddings, so check it’s open to casual visitors before dropping by. Narkoojee has a highly regarded restaurant.

Things to do in Traralgon, Victoria: Aerobatic flights

For something completely different, try Bandicoot Adventure Flights. Based at Latrobe Regional Airport, Bandicoot Adventure Flights offers both scenic flights and aerobatic flights over the region.

15 minute aerobatic flights include barrel rolls, loops and steep turns, costing from $250.

Things to do in Traralgon, Victoria: Wirilda Environment Park

If that seems a bit unnatural to you, then you might be more tempted by the Wirilda Environment Park in Yallorn North. It’s just to the north-east of Traralgon.

At the Wirilda Wildlife Park, the Wirilda Track follows the Tyers River. The Peterson Lookout, taking in steep cliffs climbing from the river bank, is the highlight. But there’s also plenty of wildlife to see here. Birdwatchers will be happiest, but there’s also a good chance of seeing wallabies, kangaroos and possums.

The drive from Warragul to Traralgon takes around 42 minutes.
