Warragul weather: When is the best time to visit West Gippsland, Australia?

The Warragul weather is arguably at its best in late summer and early autumn. Due to pleasant temperatures and lower rainfall, March and April are the best time to visit West Gippsland.

The West Gippsland region of Victoria is an underrated holiday spot. One day you can be husky-sledding at Mount Baw Baw, the next walking to Toorongo Falls near Noojee, the next riding the historic Goldfields Railway in Walhalla.

Obviously, with plenty of mountains and valleys, there are several microclimates in the region. But as a rule of thumb to know what to expect weather-wise, take a look at the weather in Warragul, the main town in West Gippsland.

Warragul weather statistics

The Warragul weather is distinctly seasonal. Using Bureau of Meteorology statistics, we can see that there’s a significant difference in summer and winter temperatures.

The hottest month in Warragul is February, with a mean daily maximum temperature of 26.2°C. Compare that to July, the coldest month with a mean daily maximum temperature of 12.9°C. January is very similar to February, while December and March are a couple of degrees cooler.

Given that West Gippsland’s appeal primarily lies in the great outdoors, this makes December and March excellent months to visit. It’s warm, but not sweltering. October, November and April are all hovering around the 20°C mark, too, making them decent months to visit West Gippsland, too.

The best time to visit West Gippsland, therefore, is probably March or April. During these late summer/ early autumn months, rainfall is relatively low, and the temperatures are pleasantly warm.
