Where is West Wyalong, New South Wales?

West Wyalong, New South Wales, is not the sort of town most overseas visitors to Australia will get anywhere near. It’s the main town of the Bland Shire in the Riverina region, and it’s where the Newell Highway meets the Mid-Western Highway. It’s on the cusp of the New South Wales outback, and agriculture is the big deal in these parts.

Conceivably, you might pass through if driving from Brisbane to Melbourne. It’s on the inland route, which takes pretty much the same amount of time as the coastal route. It’s just less obviously attractive.

West Wyalong and Wyalong are theoretically two separate towns but they’re joined by a meandering main street. There are several heritage buildings that can be linked together, but the main attraction in the town itself is the West Wyalong Wetlands Boardwalk. You should see a bit of birdlife at the West Wyalong Wetlands.
