Where to buy Myki in Melbourne

The Public Transport Victoria site has full information, but the important thing to remember is that you can’t buy or top up a Myki on a bus or tram. This has to be done beforehand.

Luckily, there are hundreds of places where you can buy a Myki. The easiest option for anyone with an Android phone is to use Google Pay. This way, you can use your mobile phone as your ticket, and top up your Myki balance as you go along.

Where to find Myki machines

The second option is using the Myki machines, which appear at busy stations, tram and bus stops. They’re also found in Public Transport Victoria Hubs. But it’s hard to know whether the station will have a machine before turning up there, which is far from ideal.

Therefore, look into option three, which is buying a Myki from a shop. The Myki cards are sold by retail outlets with the official Myki sign and branded equipment.

Myki cards at 7-Eleven

But, if in doubt, head to the nearest 7-Eleven. There are hundreds of 7-Eleven convenience stores, and they all sell and top up Myki cards.

Once you’ve bought a Myki card, you should register it online. Once that’s done, you can top up online via credit card, or set it to automatically top up when running low.

Where to use Myki

Myki is used for trains, trams and buses in Melbourne, as well as buses in other Victorian cities such as Geelong, Ballarat, Seymour and Bendigo. It is also used on some V/Line train services, including the one from Melbourne to Traralgon.
