Obviously, in terms of wildlife attractions, Calmsley Hill City Farm isn’t exactly going to win out over Featherdale Wildlife Park or Taronga Zoo. But if you happen to be in the area, it’s a pleasant enough place to visit. And it’s a pretty good time-killer if you have kids in tow.

Calmsley Hill City Farm experiences

Crucially, this isn’t the sort of urban farm where you just walk past enclosures of animals. There’s a daily programme of shows which aim to get children interacting with the animals. Experiences include Meet The Farmer where you can meet a farmer and ask any questions you can come up with. There’s also animal patting and cow milking.

Perhaps more impressive are the working dog shows, where a trained dog gets to work on the sheep. There’s also a sheep-shearing show and a stock whip show, where one of the farmers demonstrates how to crack a whip.

Perennially popular is the tractor ride, where you chug around the farm, pulled by a tractor. There’s commentary along the way, and you’ll probably see newborn lambs in the paddocks between July and November.
