Cue to Perth road trip: Distance, drive time & stops

Cue to Perth drive: Paynes Find

The first realistic stop is 146km into the drive at Paynes Find. Here, you can refuel with petrol, food and drink at the Paynes Find Tavern and Roadhouse.

The Paynes Find Gold Battery and Museum houses a working gold battery, and gives an insight into the gold mining past.

Further along, it’s possible to camp at two nature sanctuaries – the Charles Darwin Reserve and the Mount Gibson Wildlife Sanctuary. You’ll need a 4WD vehicle, however, and they’re only open to limited numbers of visitors for part of the year.

Attractions between Cue and Perth: Wubin

Otherwise, keep going to the next fuel stop at small pastoral town Wubin. Here, the Wheatbin Museum looks at the not especially fascinating grain industry. The best time to visit is August and September, when wildflowers bloom across the surrounding region.

Dalwallinu further south is a little bigger, and acts as the regional hub. Wildflowers are best seen in the Dalwallinu Remnant Bushland, while the Dalwallinu Discovery Centre gives information about the area’s largely wheat-based past.

Surprisingly charming accommodation is available here at the Old Convent.
