Don’t expect to just nip to Dubbo for a short day out, however. It is far enough away from Sydney to make it tough going as a weekend break.

From Sydney CBD, the Sydney to Dubbo drive crosses the Sydney Harbour Bridge and passes through Sydney suburbia along the M2 and M7. Suburbs passed along the way include Artarmon, Lane Cove and Macquarie Park. It later skirts West Pennant Hills, where walks in the Bidjigal Reserve and Cumberland State Forest make for pleasant stops.
