Grafton to Inverell drive: Gibraltar Range National Park

Gibraltar Range National Park is more exciting for everyone else, however. It’s home to several good walking tracks. The 6km Needles Walking Track makes for a good half day outing, while the Junction Spur Walking Track is much harder work. If you want to see waterfalls, plump for the 7km Duffer Falls Walking Track or head to the lookouts over Lyrebird Falls and Boundary Falls.

After a fair bit of zig-zagging, the Gwydir Highway, veers into Washpool National Park. Again, there are several more walking tracks to attack, as well as picnic areas and campgrounds. For a quick photo stop, the Heffron Lookout is your best bet.
