Melbourne to Merimbula road trip: Best stops, distance & drive time

Marlo and Cape Conran detour

You’ll encounter arguably the best detour on the Melbourne to Merimbula road trip at Orbost. Veering down the Marlo Road to Marlo and Cape Conran only adds 15 minutes to the driving time.

By the roadside, the Snowy River winds towards the ocean, passing through the wildlife reserves of Lake Corringle and Lake Curlip.

In Marlo, you can stay at caravan park, enjoy the views of the Snowy River mouth from the Lovelock Lookout and throw yourself at the waves on Mots Beach.

The Marlo-Conran Road brings more beaches before you reach the walking tracks and pink-hued Salmo Rocks at Cape Conran. The Cabbage Tree-Conran Road will take you back to the Princes Highway.

Next section: Bemm River and Cann River.
