Newcastle to Taree road trip stops: Botanic Gardens and national parks

The Newcastle to Taree drive leaves Newcastle to the north, going past the Hunter Wetlands National Park and Hunter Region Botanic Gardens in Heatherbrae.

The Pacific Highway then runs east and north of Port Stephens, firstly through Raymond Terrace.

You’ll pass the southern fringes of Wallaroo National Park and Karuah National Park. The latter has campgrounds and 4WD trails.

There’s a strong argument for turning off towards the northern Port Stephens towns of Karuah, Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest. Jimmys Beach in Hawks Nest is especially lovely.
