Perth to Uluru drive: Northam to the State Barrier Fence

Northam is one of the best spots for an overnight stop. Things to do in Northam include ogling the silo art, taking a balloon flight over the Avon Valley and discovering Indigenous culture at the Bilya Koort Boodja cultural centre.

Northam accommodation choices include the historic Duke’s Inn and the personality-packed Fairway Manor.

After Northam, the drive from Perth to Norseman gets seriously dull. But there’s one constant companion – the ‘Golden Pipeline’, through which water is piped hundreds of kilometres from Mundaring Weir to Kalgoorlie. If you’re going to stop at any point along the route, Burracoppin is where it meets the astonishingly long State Barrier Fence. Here, you can learn the story of the longest fence in the world.
