Chirnside Park is a suburb of Melbourne that merges into the Yarra Valley wine region. It is best known for the Chirnside Park shopping centre, although there are two top golf courses as well.

The Chirnside Park shopping centre is on the Maroondah Highway and acts as the main mall for Lilydale and the surrounding area.

Chirnside Park shops

There are more than 110 speciality stores within the complex. Some do fashion, some homewares, some services. There’s also a dedicated greengrocer, fishmonger, baker, butcher and poultry shop.

But this is realistically a mall you visit for the big boys. Chirnside Park is home to a Kmart, Coles, Woolworths, Target and Aldi.

The Chirnside Park shopping centre is also a leisure venue, with an eight screen Reading Cinema and several chainy restaurants. These include a Noodle Box, Jamaica Blue, Subway and Nando’s.

To the average overseas visitor, this won’t be very interesting at all. But if you’re going a road trip and heading towards the Yarra Valley or Healesville, then Chirnside Park could be a useful place to stock up on supplies.

Golf in Chirnside Park

The suburb is fairly urban on its southern fringe, but most of Chirnside Park is rural. It is also home to two fine golf courses.

The Chirnside Park Country Club offers lawn bowls as well as the Gardiner’s Run golf course, but the most attractive target here is near the Yarra River.

The Heritage Golf and Country Club is much more than the twin golf courses. There’s a big residential development around it, and you can stay overnight at the Yarra Valley Lodge.

The two golf course are the par 72, Jack Nicklaus-designed St John Course and the Henley Golf Course. The St John Golf Course is the Championship course, and the Henley Golf Course is more about links and water hazards.
