Aileron Roadhouse, NT: Location, restaurant & accommodation

The Aileron Roadhouse in Australia’s Northern Territory is best known for the big Aboriginal statues next to it. However, the accommodation and restaurant makes the Aileron Roadhouse an option for an overnight stay on a Northern Territory road trip.

What is the Aileron Roadhouse?

The Aileron Roadhouse is one of several roadhouses along the Stuart Highway in Australia’s Northern Territory. Many travellers making the long drive from Adelaide to Darwin or Melbourne to Darwin will end up stopping at this roadhouse to refuel.

However, there is a little more to the Aileron Roadhouse than just being somewhere to put fuel in your car.

For a start, the Aileron Roadhouse has a restaurant. It is by no means a fancy one, but if you want to fill up on a basic pub staple, it’ll do the job.

Aileron Roadhouse accommodation

Overnight accommodation is also available at the Aileron Roadhouse. The attached camping and caravan park offers powered and non-powered sites, plus air-conditioned motel rooms. Alas, none of these can be booked online – the roadhouse website is next to useless. You’ll have to phone up in advance to reserve your site. The number is (08) 8956 9703.

Where is the Aileron Roadhouse?

The Aileron Roadhouse is approximately 135km north of Alice Springs and 374km south of Tennant Creek.

This Stuart Highway roadhouse is most notable for the Aboriginal sculptures standing on the hilltop next to it. There are two tall, slender sculptures – one of Anmatjere Man, and another of Anmatjere Woman and child. If nothing else, the statues make for a good photo stop before continuing your journey.
