Where is the best place to see rock art at Uluru?

Arguably the best place to see rock art at Uluru is the Mutitjulu Cave on the southern side of the monolith. Traditionally, this was a place where Anangu families would tell stories around the campfire after a day’s hunting.

There are several well-preserved rock art sites at the Mutitjulu Cave, which can be accessed via the east 1km Kuniya Walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole or the Uluru base walk.

There are also several rock art sites in the shelters along the Mala Walk, nearer the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre.

Where to see modern Aboriginal art at Uluru

Rock art is not the only Indigenous art, however. If you want to see modern Aboriginal art at Uluru, the best place is the Gallery of Central Australia at the Ayers Rock Resort.

The Gallery of Central Australia opened in 2022, and showcases more than 300 artworks. The art is exclusively by artists from Central Australia and the Western Desert region.

This once-in-a-lifetime dune-top dinner experience, with special stargazing session included, is our top Uluru recommendation.

It is a commercial gallery, but there are also some specially-curated items, such as pieces of traditional Anangu wood carving.

During the peak visitor season at Uluru, there is also an Artist in Residence program, where artists create pieces within the gallery throughout the day.
