Coomba Falls, Queensland: Swimming at the Coomba Waterhole

The Coomba Waterhole at the bottom of Coomba Falls near Kingaroy, Queensland, is cold but refreshing on a summer day. It’s a short walk to this picturesque swimming hole from the car park.

What is Coomba Falls?

Coomba Falls is a small waterfall in the South Burnett region of Queensland, Australia. It is part of Tanduringie Creek.

The waterfall itself is pretty enough, although it slows to a trickle in the winter months. But the real reason to visit is the Coomba Waterhole – the pool at the bottom of Coomba Falls.

Where is Coomba Falls?

Coomba Falls is in the small village of Maidenwell, just off the Kingaroy-Cooyar Road. You’ll go past on the drive from Toowoomba to Kingaroy. The Coomba Waterhole is 45km south of Kingaroy.

Coomba Falls walk

Access to Coomba Falls is via a short walk from the Coomba Waterhole car park. The walk there and back to the pool at the base of the falls should take around 20 minutes, but there are a few stairs along the way.

Once there, you’ll find a beautiful swimming hole, backed by granite cliffs.

Swimming at the Coomba Waterhole

It’s possible to go swimming at the Coomba Waterhole, but be warned – the water is reliably cold here. Tanduringie Creek comes down from the Bunya Mountains, and doesn’t warm up much along the way.

If you’re too cowardly to get in the water for a bracing swim, then the Coomba Waterhole is still a lovely spot for a picnic.

Other things to do in Kingaroy include stargazing at the Kingaroy Observatory and learning about the peanut industry at the Kingaroy Heritage Museum.

Top Kingaroy accommodation picks include the Burke and Wills Motor Inn, a four star motel with a pool, and the good value Kingaroy Country Motel.
