Newcastle Memorial Walk: History, length and attractions

The Newcastle Memorial Walk in Newcastle, NSW, shows off a spectacular section of the city’s coastline while providing a memorial to the ANZAC soldiers of World War I.

What is the Newcastle Memorial Walk?

The Newcastle Memorial Walk is both a memorial and a public walking track in Newcastle, New South Wales. It was constructed in 2015 as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of ANZAC soldiers landing at Gallipoli.

It was also the 100th anniversary of steelmaking in Newcastle, hence 64 tonnes of stainless steel were used to make the Newcastle Memorial Walk.

Along the walkway are several steel silhouettes of soldiers, while if you look closer, you’ll also find the engraved names of 11,000 Hunter Valley men and women who served during World War I.

This short Newcastle walking trail is split into two sections – a bridge and a boardwalk.
