Maylands bars and restaurants

The main streets for food and fashion are Whatley Crescent and Eighth Avenue. And what works here is that everyone’s trying to do something different. The Swallow Bar offers carefully-curated cocktails and live jazz on a Sunday afternoon. Num Tong serves up Thai food, Rifo’s specialises in wood-fired pizza and the Seasonal Brewing Co makes small batch experimental beers.

Venture off the main streets, and you’ll find plenty of street art. The neighbourhood generally welcomes street artists, and several excellent murals line the alleyways.

Maylands has an air of cool around Whatley Crescent and Eighth Avenue, but that’s swapped for a sense of chill nearer the Swan River.

Things to do in Maylands, WA: Maylands Foreshore Reserve

Here, the Maylands Foreshore Reserve is the perfect place for a riverside picnic or barbecue. There are public barbecues available in the park.

If you’d prefer to be on the water, though, Nauti Boats hires out little electric picnic boats. These can fit up to eight people, and cost from $286.20 for three hours. With a group, this is a novel and relatively inexpensive way to do a Swan River cruise. Nauti Boats is based next to the Maylands Public Boat Ramp. Instruction is given to novice skippers on how to steer and control the boats.

The other main attraction is Maylands Waterland. However, this ageing pools and splash play area is currently closed for renovations and a significant makeover.
