23rd Street Distillery, Renmark: Gins, whiskies & visitor experiences
The 23rd Street Distillery in Renmark, South Australia, offers a range of inventive, experimental spirits and visitor experiences that include gin-mixing lessons.
The 23rd Street Distillery in Renmark, South Australia, is one of a wave of craft distillers carving out a niche on Australia’s drinks scene. It’s not holding itself back by sticking to one particular spirit, either.
This Renmark Distillery is in the heart of wine country, and the building was formerly used by some of the biggest names in Australian wine. In 2016, however, the 23rd Street Distillery moved in, using copper stills that are more than 100 years old.
23rd Street Distillery gin
This South Australian craft distillery’s flagship product is the signature gin, but it also gets rather experimental on the gin front. There’s a violet gin, a red citrus gin, a mulberry and a yuzu gin.
The signature gin and violet gin are also sold mixed with tonic in pre-mix cans.
On the whisky front, there are single malt whiskies, but the Hybrid Whisk(e)y is perhaps more interesting. This South Australian whisky commits terrible sacrilege by blending scotch with bourbon, but it somehow works, and has won several awards.
23rd Street Distillery vodka, brandy, ouzo and rum
The 23rd Street Distillery also makes two vodkas – a standard vodka and a Riverland rose vodka. Both are packaged up in premix cans, too. The standard vodka and soda comes with light blood orange flavouring, and the Riverland rose vodka and soda has a hint of mint.
The 23rd Street Distillery range also includes brandies, an ouzo and a rum.
Renmark distillery visitor experiences
This Renmark distillery is open to visitors, and has its own restaurant. It also runs tasting sessions, cocktail-making masterclasses and gin-mixing lessons. For bookings and further information, visit the distillery website.
Other things to do in Remark include the Murray River Walk and river cruises on the PS Industry.
