Where is Bobbin Head?
Bobbin Head is a picnic area in the western section of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Sydney. It’s on Cowan Creek, which is essentially the southernmost navigable part of Broken Bay.
Access to Bobbin Head is via the Bobbin Head Road from Turramurra or Ku-ring-gai Chase Road from Mount Colah.
It’s easy enough to drop by Bobbin Head as part of a road trip further north – say from Sydney to Newcastle or Sydney to Terrigal.

Things to do at Bobbin Head: Picnics and barbecues
Bobbin Head in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is a justifiably popular spot for picnics and barbecues. There’s a large grassy area by the water which the kids can run around on, and the views of the forest-surrounded creek and bright blue creek are gorgeous.
There’s also a café at Bobbin Head if you’d prefer to buy food rather than bring it with you.
Things to do at Bobbin Head: Paddleboat hire
It’s also possible to hire paddleboats from the Bobbin Head café.
At the time of writing, a two-seater paddleboat costs $25 for half an hour and a four-seater paddleboat costs $35.
What to do at Bobbin Head, Sydney: Boat rentals
If you’d prefer a bigger, faster boat, then head to the Empire Marina, which hires out tinnies with no licence required.
If the plan is to go fishing, a fishing licence is included within the boat hire fee. At the time of writing, it costs $110 for a three hour tinny rental.
Bobbin Head entry fee and opening times
Entry to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park costs $12 per vehicle per day. The entrance to Bobbin Head is only open during daylight hours.
