Oxer Lookout, Karijini National Park: Getting there & walk

The Oxer Lookout in Karijini National Park, Western Australia, is one of Australia’s top scenic viewpoints. It looks over the junction of four rugged gorges amid the red rock landscape of the Pilbara.

What is the Oxer Lookout?

The Oxer Lookout is a scenic viewpoint in Karijini National Park, Western Australia. This Pilbara lookout is one of the most spectacular in Australia, as it stands at the junction of four gorges. Joffre Gorge, Weano Gorge, Red Gorge and Hancock Gorge meet below.

Where is the Oxer Lookout?

The Oxer Lookout is in the Weano Recreation Area section of Karijini National Park, a long where from anywhere resembling a city in Western Australia’s north-west. The nearest settlement is Tom Price, an hour’s drive to the west.

However, this Karijini National Park lookout is only a 19 minute drive away from the Karijini Eco Retreat – the main accommodation within the park.

Oxer Lookout walk

The Oxer Lookout walk is a relatively straight forward one from the Weano Recreation Area car park. It’s about 800 metres return, and you can also stop at the Junction Pool Lookout along the way. The trickiest part of the walk is between the two lookouts, although this is still only rated as Grade 3.

Other Karijini National Park attractions include Hamersley Gorge in the north-west and Mount Bruce off Karijini Drive. You can also enjoy Fern Pool, Fortescue Falls and Circular Pool in the Dales Recreation Area section of the park.
