Adelaide to Canberra road trip: Distance, driving time & stops

Adelaide to Canberra drive attractions: NSW leg

Here, at last, is a genuinely worthwhile stop on the route. The Yanga National Park stretches along the Murrumbidgee River. But it’s the heritage rather than the picturesque river scenery you come for. The Yanga Homestead and Yanga Woolshed are hugely evocative, preserved-in-time remnants of the once enormous wool industry that thrived here. Nearby, historic Moulamein is a decent bet for an overnight stay.

From here, you’ve got an awfully long time on the Sturt Highway, with mediumly pleasant Darlington Point and Wagga Wagga the only sizable towns en route through cork hat country.

Wagga Wagga accommodation picks include the roomy Quest apartments and the charming Charles Boutique Hotel.

The Adelaide to Canberra drive continues along the same route as the Adelaide to Sydney drive, via Jugiong, until finally diverting south around Yass for the capital of Australia.

Yass accommodation choices include the in-town Yass Central Bed and Breakfast and the well-regarded Colonial Lodge Motor Inn.

The Yass to Canberra drive takes about 52 minutes.
