What are the best things to do in Moulamein, NSW?

The best things to do in Moulamein, NSW, include the Mooloomoon Woolshed, Moulamein Lake and Moulamein River Walk along the Edward River and Billabong Creek.

Moulamein, NSW, is on the Edward River, sandwiched between the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers. This country town feels neither here nor there. It’s a deviation south of the Sturt Highway connecting Sydney to Adelaide, and it doesn’t quite fit on Murray River road trip.

That’s a shame, because Moulamein has more attractions to offer than might initially be obvious. Things to do in Moulamein include the Mooloomoon Woolshed, Moulamein Lake and Moulamein River Walk.

The Mooloomoon Woolshed offers a taste of the pastoral past. Displays inside the atmospheric old woolshed tell the tales of settlers, shearers and the wool industry. It’s similar to the nearby Yanga Woolshed in the Yanga National Park. Both give glimpses of a once enormous industry that drove the settlement of inland Australia.

Other things to do in Moulamein include the Moulamein Lake. You can go fishing here, although you’ll probably get better catches along the Edward River and Billabong Creek. Locals use Moulamein Lake for watersports, but visitors might be more interested in the swimming pool and barbecue facilities.

Moulamein River Walk

If you want to get active, tackle the Moulamein River Walk. Dotted with informational signs along the Edward River and Billabong Creek, the Moulamein River Walk explores the town’s history. It also covers local Aboriginal culture and beliefs, native wildlife and the Big Tree. The Big Tree is not very imaginatively named, but is thought to be the largest red gum tree in the world.
